“A Christian is a perfectly free lord of all, subject to none. A Christian is a perfectly dutiful servant of all, subject to all.”
How should this famous line from Martin Luther’s 1520 work, Freedom of a Christian, be understood?
How free is a Christian? Free to do what? Free from what?
Does modern sense of freedom adequately explain Christian freedom? No. Freedom without God’s law actually imprisons a person. It is only in the Gospel, the good news from God, that the true freedom for human beings can really be found.

Let’s learn to live with this freedom, for it will set us free from all bondages, whether it be sin, false knowledge of self, false knowledge of God, inability to love (God, others, and even oneself), or whatever it is.
